Ratings: Blue Bloods ties season high; Last Man Standing still wins

Blue Bloods season 9

There are a couple of different things to report on in our ratings update from last night, but let’s start with a win for Blue Bloods season 9.

Overall, last night’s new episode on CBS ended up generating as a whole a 0.9 rating in the 18-49 demographic, which ties its best number of the season. Consider this yet another reminder that even almost a decade in, this show is a dominating force in some of the ratings measurements that matter the most. That is a very-welcome sign as we start to move towards the future. There is no confirmed season 10 just yet, but this feels really like a situation where it’s up to whatever the cast and crew want to do here. If they have an interest in continuing the CBS show, then that is precisely what they are going to do. Formal decisions will come a little bit later in the spring, but for now if you are a Blue Bloods fan there is a tremendous amount to be excited and super-hopeful for.

It is, of course, always worth noting that Blue Bloods remains the most-watched show on Friday night … not that this should be all that great of a surprise to anybody out there.

As for some other ratings news…

The big story is of course Last Man Standing winning the night with another 1.1 rating in the demo — while that is a drop from the week prior, this is another reminder that the show has one of the most-stable audiences out there. Last Man Standing is absolutely in the camp of “a show that lasts however long the cast and crew want it to.” Its ratings have been more or less consistently solid from the start of this season and we know that it has an extremely loyal following. Add to all of this the DVR ratings and attention that the show brings itself (while promotion is welcome, it doesn’t need it to be a hit), we don’t see Fox wanting to give up on this anytime soon.

Also, remember here that Fox has another solid hit on their hands in The Cool Kids, which has become a great use of the lead-in. Last night’s new episode generated a 0.9 rating; tying with Blue Bloods for second place on the night is certainly not something to be upset over in the slightest.
