Blue Bloods season 9 episode 8 video: Nicky, Erin talk Frank conflict

Blue Bloods season 9

As we move forward through Blue Bloods season 9 episode 8, it’s going to be one of the biggest Erin Reagan stories we’ve seen in some time.

What’s going on in this episode can be best described in reasonably-simple terms: Erin and Frank are clashing over some new legislation, which could have some sort of adverse effect, in turn, on the NYPD. We’ve already come to see them establish some parameters in their relationship now, which are necessary given that they are father and daughter but also hold some very-critical positions. The District Attorney’s office and the Commissioner aren’t always going to be on the same page, and they at times may need to speak out against each other. That doesn’t mean that Erin or Frank love each other less or want to treat one another differently. They just have a different relationship than before and with that, of course, comes somewhat of a new dynamic.

The scene in a sneak peek revolves mostly around Erin and Nicky having a conversation that’s largely about one subject: Family dinner. How can Erin and her father fight at one moment and then be civil with one another the next? A lot of that largely comes down to the refuse-like environment that family dinner provides. It offers the two of them up a rare opportunity to be able to talk things out or at least take their minds off of some of the troubles of the day. That’s essential for keeping a relationship, or at least doing whatever you can to ensure that it doesn’t get entirely focused just on work. It’s almost necessary in that specific way.

If there is one thing that we’ll say is somewhat curious here, it’s that there seems to be something that Nicky may have wanted to talk to her mom about that she didn’t have the time to do. Is something more going on here? That’s certainly possible, but it’s a dangling carrot that the series is going to explore more a little bit down the line.

For now, though, this sneak peek seems to be mostly just about the importance of family dinner and how it is a tradition to be preserved. After all, it’s one of the few constants that the Reagan family has in their entire, complicated lives. That’s why the writers also work so hard in order emphasize family dinner in just about as many different ways that they can. They recognize precisely how important it is to viewers just as it is the Reagans themselves.
