Omar Metwally leaving The Affair, at least as a series regular

Affair season 4 finale

Is it official now that Omar Metwally is leaving The Affairand the character of Vik once and for all? We know that there is some strong evidence of that at the moment. For starters, Vik was dying on cancer at the end of this past episode, and given that the Showtime is eventually going to bring in a new love interest for Helen, it’s not that weird to think that we’re going to be losing this character before too long.

With that being said, though, it does feel as though we could still be seeing the Vik character in some shape or form. According to a new report via TVLine, Metwally is not returning as a series regular, but it is possible that you may still see the character in some capacity for an episode or two. If we do, we feel like that will translate to a short time jump, given the fact that Vik did not exactly have a ton of time left at the end of this past season. We don’t foresee him suddenly popping up as a ghost, so when he’s gone, that is mostly likely it.

(Difficult-to-admit take: As much as we enjoyed watching the Vik character, especially in season 4, it wouldn’t be horrible if he is just dead at the start of season 5. It felt like the ending of season 4 was all the closure that we really needed when it comes to who he was and the journey that he and Helen were on together. We’ll just assume that Sierra ends up giving birth to his baby without too much trouble.)

As for where we anticipate the main focus of The Affair to be moving forward, it’ll probably be somewhat of a balance between the present and the future. In the present, Noah and Helen are probably going to try and figure out just what the remainder of their own lives looks like; meanwhile, far down the road we’ll see a flash-forward version of Joanie try to figure out what actually happened to her mother Alison. It’s clear that she died under mysterious circumstances and it’s rather sad that Cole likely never figured it out for himself. We know that, at least in the aftermath of what happened, he was desperate to pin this on Ben — who seems to be the actual murderer based on what we’ve seen.
