American Horror Story: Apocalypse finale: Who is Mallory, really?

Sarah Paulson

Who is Mallory on American Horror Story: ApolcalypseThat’s a question you may want some more information on moving into the finale. There is so much still to resolve after all, and there really is not a heck of a lot of time left to tie it all up.

There are so many different theories that are out there about the character’s intentions and abilities, including that she may be a fallen angel or one of the most important Supremes who has ever lived. One way or another, she does seem to be the last line of defense in fighting to save the world. You have Michael Landon on one side of the battlefield entering the finale (preview that more over at the link here) and you have Mallory presumably on the other. Maybe one side will win, or maybe we’re gonna have one of those weird half-Apocalypse scenarios where there are no clear winners or losers and everyone suffers. This is a battle presumably of good vs. evil, but it’s hard to label it entirely that at the moment given that it’s not clear that Mallory is purely good just yet. Instead, what we’ve learned is that she is important and that she is diametrically opposed to Michael. Signs point towards her being one of the most important, most-underestimated characters within the final chapter.

In previewing the finale more in a new interview with TV Guide, Billie Lourd is saying that there is going to be some sort of satisfactory ending — just for all of you out there wondering if there can be one at the end of all of this chaos:

“Honestly, the finale is so satisfying. When I read it, I could not put it down and it tied everything in a perfect, tight, little witchy bow. I think people will be really excited. It really is for the fans.”

Meanwhile, Lourd also notes that she would be more than happy to reprise this role down the line, which is largely important for everyone out there who understandably feels as though there’s a lot more story to tell beyond just a single episode left to go. Part of the joy of the American Horror Story franchise is that there is always a chance to revisit this part of the universe … not that we really think the writers need to do that next. As a matter of fact, our preference moving into season 9 would be to go small and make things simple like with Murder House — after all, there is a rather hefty amount of terror that can at times be found in some small, dark corners of the world.
