Blue Bloods season 9 episode 7 video: Will Eddie’s mom split Jamko up?
The clip (via Entertainment Weekly) is from Friday night’s new episode, and in it, you get a first look at stage legend Christine Ebersole as Eddie’s mother. She is someone who is notoriously difficult and, beyond just that, has a hard time taking anyone seriously without throwing them under the bus and running them over repeatedly. She recognizes seemingly that Jamie may be good at his job, but also tries to undermine him at almost every opportunity. First, she ribs him for deciding to become a cop even though he went to Harvard. Then, she also talks about how he may never be able to afford a house. After all of that, she also then chides Eddie for going to by “a boy’s name” while Jamie has “a girl’s name.” (Saying Edit and Jameson just doesn’t roll off the tongue anywhere near as well.) If you’ve ever watched Shahs of Sunset she reminds us of a fictional version of Mercedes Javid’s mother Vida who we think means well, but can be incredibly frustrating.
It takes all of about twenty seconds to see that Eddie is annoyed with her mother but, by and large, Jamie remains unfazed. While he may not be used to this particular awkward family situation, he’s certainly aware of what it’s like to be involved in many others. Heck, we’ve seen him deal with awkward family drama for a good eight seasons so far, not including anything this year with Eddie at his side. We think that eventually, Eddie’s mom will start to warm up to him when she understands that he’s the best thing for her daughter — someone who loves her and will do everything that he can to give her a good life. He’s also moving up the ranks in the police force and the two have a lot in common, both in terms of on the job and off. They’ve certainly had bumps in the road this season, but nothing that suggests that they are on the road to breaking up and we seriously doubt that Eddie’s mom is going to run Jamie off as she fears. This season, the writers have shown already their ability to weave in good Jamko stories without the two characters being together out in the field. Basically, they’ve proven already that it’s possible to tell some unique stories through a wide array of means — it’s what any Jamko fan should want.
For those wondering, it’s hard to imagine that this will be the last time Eddie’s mother turns up on the series. Don’t you have to think that she will make her presence felt at a wedding? We’re going ahead and assuming that this is something that will be coming, because if they don’t give us all an actual wedding and skip over it like they did with the proposal we imagine there will be an army of salty Jamko fans (us included).
