Lucifer season 4 episode 9 title is certainly fitting (and awesome)

Lucifer

On the same day as the midterm elections, Lucifer co-showrunner Joe Henderson officially revealed the season 4 episode 9 title. Suffice it to say, it’s incredible — and also a very nice homage to the fans.

As you see below (via Twitter), the title for this episode is “Save Lucifer.” This is the sort of title that really doesn’t need any sort of explanation since we were all there and participating to make this magic happen. This was the hashtag that spawned the movement to bring the show back, and beyond that it’s also something that could very well work within the frame of the show itself. What happens when Lucifer is in danger? Well … somebody needs to save him. This episode should offer up a great opportunity to explore what happens when this character is in some sort peril, even if it remains to be seen precisely what sort of peril this is. Maybe it’s mental, maybe it’s physical, or maybe someone needs to just pull him away from a Bones marathon.

Anyhow, Lucifer season 4 episode 9 is being written by Henderson, who of course is responsible for many of the show’s best episodes (as any person in his position should be). Meanwhile, it is directed by Lisa Demaine, who has a little bit of directing experience with Lucifer already — she’s responsible for “Boo Normal,” one of the season 3 “bonus” episodes that was originally meant to air in season 4 had Fox renewed the show. More than likely, this is the most important episode story-wise that she’s done for the show so far, even if it was nice seeing Ella’s “imaginary friend” earlier this year.

Is there any bad news that comes with this title?

Sure — it’s almost the end of filming. Production has been hard at work as of late on season 4 episode 8, and that all but guarantees that season 4 filming will be wrapped up before the holiday. There’s a part of us that wants to see it last so much longer, mostly because there is also that part of our brain creatively that wants to dream of a world in which we somehow get more than the ten episodes that were actually ordered. Anything for more Lucifer.

If you want to get super meta about things, maybe the “Save Lucifer” title is another call to action and a reminder to watch the show, watch it early, and watch it often when it comes on Netflix at some point in 2019. This is the only way in which to ensure that the series ends up scoring a season 5 renewal. We remain cautiously optimistic on that; Netflix likely didn’t save the show just to cancel it after one season, but at the same time, they’ve been impatient as of late keeping good shows on the air.
