Has Doctor Who season 11 already bottomed out? If that is the case, it’s certainly excellent news for the BBC franchise. After all, it is leveling off in a place that is great for the show’s future.

Sunday night’s new episode entitled “Arachnids in the UK” ended up drawing a grand total of 6.4 million viewers. Why is this notable? Well, there are a couple of reasons for that. For starters, this episode matched the total that it got for last week’s “Rosa,” and we weren’t quite sure that this was going to happen. For starters, spiders were not the most appealing of subject matter, and we wondered if some out there who were particularly squeamish would opt to not check this story out and simply choose to bail on it.

Beyond just this, there is another issue to consider here — the typical trend for Doctor Who that it often falls over the course of the season. Maybe the ratings did bump up slightly than they typically would given that this is Halloween season, and with that viewers may have been craving an especially spooky story.

It’s already clear with these ratings that Doctor Who is not a show that is going to be going anywhere in the near future. The ratings are up significantly versus last year, and one of the things to remember here is that we’re in an era where the average TV show is shedding viewers left and right. The fact that Doctor Who can keep things going as well as they are is very much impressive, and it’s something that we hope that they can continue to pull off the rest of the year.
