Supergirl season 4 episode 4 preview: The meaning of ‘Ahimsa’

Supergirl season 4 episode 3

Supergirl season 4 episode 4, entitled “Ahimsa” is coming up on The CW in one week’s time. Leading up to it, it’s fair to wonder what that means.

Basically, ahimsa is a Buddhist principle of nonviolence, something that we do imagine could be at the core of some of what’s coming as tensions continue to boil with humans and aliens. Agent Liberty is at the center of much of it, as his treatment of aliens has led to paranoia and fear. Basically, getting aliens to the point where they fight back is really just a reinforcement of some of his personal beliefs, as this allows him to fight back even more than ever.

As we inch closer to this episode next week, the key player here could be Manchester Black. This is a much-hyped character whose arrival will give us a chance to see a different perspective on things. He seems to be tied to what’s going on with J’onn, at least for the time being. (Manchester Black has a rather complicated history in the comics and we certainly could see that coming to the series, as well. Who knows precisely what way in which this character is going to lean?)

Below, the Supergirl season 4 episode 4 synopsis offers up more in terms of what lies ahead:

J’ONN MEETS MANCHESTER BLACK – When Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) needs help, Alex (Chyler Leigh) asks Lena (Katie McGrath) and Brainiac (Jesse Rath) to team up. Meanwhile, J’onn (David Haredwood) questions his decision to quit the DEO. However, after running into Manchester Black (guest star David Ajala), he realizes there are a lot of ways to help his fellow aliens during this tumultuous time. Armen V. Kevorkian directed the episode with story by Eric Carrasco and teleplay by Katie Rose Rogers & Jess Kardos (#404). Original airdate 11/4/2018.

Seeing Lena and Brainy to team-up may be one of the things that we’re most excited about — largely because we’re talking about a no-nonsense boss in Lena working alongside someone who may not always understand precisely what she wants him to do. His understanding of modern convention remains a work in progress.
