Legacies video: Matthew Davis on playing newest iteration of Alaric Saltzman

Legacies

It feels like a pretty serious understatement right now to say that Alaric Saltzman has been through a lot leading up to LegaciesWe’re talking here about a man who has gone through death, vampirism, losing loved ones, and apparently not aging at all through the entire process. Does the man have some sort of magic that we don’t quite know about?

Matthew Davis is going to be one of the leads taking charge now leading up to the premiere of the CW show a little bit later this week. Legacies has been highly anticipated, mostly because it seeks to combine the mythologies of The Vampire Diaries and The Originals with something that is new, fresh, and exciting. This is about watching characters like Hope and others grow up within the supernatural-school environment. The rest of society may not fully understand them if they were aware of them, but Alaric clearly does. That’s why he is the perfect father figure for many of these characters. He has experienced and seen so much that he should be prepared for almost everything.

In the video below, Davis does his part in order to tease up the latest iteration of this character, including how there is an opportunity to dive into some more complexities with this character that were not there beforehand. On The Vampire Diaries, it’s true that Alaric was a little less on the list of priorities — there was a lot more going on, and he wasn’t actually a series regular for the entirety of the show. Here, he’s one of the most-important people from the start, he has daughters who are a main part of the story, and he’s also going to feel a lot of responsibility towards Hope. He knows how different she is and how she may be very important for the future of supernatural people as a whole.
