Chicago Med season 4 episode 4 review: Is Will Halstead working with the cops?

Chicago Med

Tonight, Chicago Med arrived with some of the medical stories that you’ve come to expect from the show, whether it be a controversial medical tied to immigration, Ethan being anxious over Emily’s new boyfriend, or Will Halstead realizing that the police want to effectively use him as bait.

Ultimately, though, Will’s decision in regards to the police was the most interesting one for us entering the hour, largely because of the fact that he didn’t want to give in to most of what Voight, Halstead, or anyone else in the police department wanted. They wanted him to effectively serve as a CI so that they could ensure they get key information on the status of Ray, the local gangster who Will wanted to rent a wedding venue from. He didn’t want to get mixed up in all of this, mostly due to pride and also the feeling that he didn’t want to be.

As for the immigration case, things got ugly rather fast. A young man named Manny was taken away by ICE officials over a petty charge from many years prior, right before he was set to give stem cells to his dying sister. He was reluctant to do so out of fear for what could happen, and in the aftermath of making his decision, now his pregnant wife could be in fear of deportation himself. This was a tough situation since the doctors and the administration (a.k.a. Glenn) were in deep trouble.

Dr. Choi tonight dealt with a patient, meanwhile, who was morally insufferable — an attorney who used a fake name and did everything that she could in order to score drugs. Dr. Charles ended up getting involved, but in the end there wasn’t much of anything that could be done to really stop this woman’s rampage through the hospital and its staff when they didn’t do what they wanted.

CarterMatt Verdict

We’re not sure there is a lot of happiness for characters coming out of tonight, mostly because Emily is pregnant, Will is in a precarious position, and Natalie feels like she put an extreme amount of work into a case that left the patient with zero options.

Ultimately, though, this was an episode that pushed characters to their limit — that’s why Will, in the closing minutes, decided to go along with Jay’s plan.
