Vikings season 5: New teaser teases Ivar, Lagertha, and plenty of darkness
In doing so, we think that the network also does a good job of reminding us that we’re gearing up for what may very well be the darkest version of the show to date. This is a season that is starting off with many characters (see Lagertha) in a fairly desperate place, and that is something that could fuel a good bit of her actions and behavior. She is in a place where her specific intentions and plans are probably only going to become clearer as time goes by.
When it comes to Ivar, however, he may be taking advantage of an opportunity to bask somewhat in his glory. We’ve seen some of that in other previews that are out there, but to go along with that, we don’t think that he is going to lose sight of any potential threats. Ivar doesn’t strike us as the sort of character who is suddenly going to get cocky or take his eyes off of the prize to a certain extent. He will remain a challenge, so much more that other characters aren’t going to wait to do anything that even remotely resembles negotiating with him.
What’s been one of the hardest challenges as a Vikings viewer is simply dealing with the ridiculously long rollout between episodes airing. The second half of season 5, after all, filming a very long time in the past. The series actually started to film season 6 last year, and there still isn’t a premiere date for those episodes yet. This is a clear way for History to stretch out their episodes for as long as possible, but it certainly is its own form of torment when it certainly seems possible that they could be released a whole lot sooner.
