Game of Thrones series finale: Peter Dinklage on Tyrion’s possible endgame

Game of Thrones season 7 episode 2 ratings

How will Tyrion’s story wrap up on the Game of Thrones series finale? At the moment, it feels like every possibility is firmly on the table.

Speaking in a new interview with Vulture covering a wide range of topics, Peter Dinklage made it clear that there were a wide array of fates that could befall his character, including that he could die before the end credits roll:

“I feel very, very — I’m trying to find the right word. I think he was given a very good conclusion,” Dinklage tells the site. “No matter what that is — death can be a great way out.”

By no means is Dinklage confirming that Tyrion will die, but there is something about that as the perfect way out for this character. If you think back to who this guy was at the start of the series, he was an intelligent outcast who wasted much of his time at the brothel. Now, however, he is a fantastic strategist and one of the most-important advisers to Daenerys. He’s found a sense of purpose and inner courage that goes along with that. The merits of having a heroic death for him now is mostly that he can show that he is not the man that he was before.

In some ways, you can even argue that a heroic death is the best way for Tyrion to go, given that he is probably never going to end up on the Iron Throne and with the war (hopefully) over at the end of the series, most of his work could be done. He doesn’t have much in the way of a true love of his life anymore, so it’s hard to see him riding off into the sunset with anyone. His marriage to Sansa was never anything more than a sham and the two of them are certainly well aware of that.

The final season of Game of Thrones is going to premiere on HBO at some point in 2019.
