Supernatural season 14 premiere: Jensen Ackles’ new role, Castiel’s pep talk, more
As it turns out, Michael is awesome — even though we miss Dean. He is a very different sort of character for Jensen to play, and he spent at least some of the hour making his perspective clear.

So what’s going on with Sam? Well mostly, he’s doing typical Sam things — trying to get his brother back while also helping Castiel and taking down a number of demons while also proclaiming that there will be no King of Hell in the immediate future. If there is a more badass moment out there for Sam the character from the past year or so, we would really like to know that that is.
Sam concluded this episode in a rough spot, still without his brother but also not giving up in his pursuit of answers. He did receive a rather fascinating phone call in the closing minutes from Sister Jo, who made it clear that there was a problem that the two of them had. Is Michael really out to create some twisted vampire army? It kind of seems that way.
Meanwhile, there were some very fun returning guest stars in this episode, as well — who doesn’t want to see Jim Beaver back around as soon as possible? As for what happened with Jack, Castiel did his part to help him, but things didn’t go all that well. Jack, without his powers, felt somewhat useful … which led to the line of the night via Cas: “To be fair, we all got punched in the face.” Jack is now feeling useless and insecure, and we think that this is going to be an adjustment for him. It’s a good thing that he has an angel friend who knows a good thing about losing his grace and the aftereffects of that … right? Basically, Castiel knows a thing or two about this more so than anyone.
