The premiere of Legacies on The CW is coming on Thursday, October 25, and while we do think that it will have many familiar elements from The Originals, we also get the sense that the show is also trying to separate itself from it.
Do we mean this in a bad way? Hardly. The Originals wasn’t necessarily getting killer ratings at the end of its run, and this is a show that needs to appeal to both viewers familiar with that show / The Vampire Diaries and also those who have never seen either of them. It’s a new generation meant for new viewers who are curious about supernatural stuff — and also a supernatural school where young vampires, werewolves, and other beings with abilities can start to hone them. There’s going to be drama, romance, and also a little bit of fun if the latest trailer (via TV Guide) is to be believed.
For most of the past several months, it’s actually been rather tough to get a lot of information on the new series, mostly because there was no formal pilot episode — instead, the penultimate episode of The Originals felt a little bit like one. Most of the previews we’ve seen until now were focused on that Originals episode as a basis for hyping the show up a little bit. There’s always been some exciting stuff about the property, but it’s always tough to build a new show up on an existing architecture in a way new people can get on board.
We like the idea of there being a vampire take on the first X-Men movie — or at least that’s how we are interpreting Legacies in our head at the moment. We’ll get more of a chance come later this month to know whether or not that is truly accurate.
