The upcoming Madam Secretary season 5 premiere is airing on CBS come Sunday night, and it’s received a ton of promotion — even more than usual. Why? Well, it has a thing or two to do with Hillary Clinton, Madeleine Albright, and Colin Powell appear as guest stars.
As we’ve seen over the past few weeks, the reaction to this news has been fairly split. We’ve heard from people claiming that they’re more excited to watch with Clinton in particular guest starring, just as we’ve also heard from a number of folks claiming that they’re going to miss the episode because she’s a part of it.
In the end, though, the biggest thing we can profess is this: We sincerely doubt that any of these three former Secretaries of State are going to dominate in terms of screen time. They are not actors and with that, the writers are not going to have handed them days’ worth of work. Our expectation is that they will all likely appear in one scene, which could end up lasting around a few minutes. they probably were able to film most of this within a matter of just hours.
For those excited to see these guest stars, maybe this will feel just like a blip on the radar, but we don’t know if you can get any of the three to appear if they are suddenly appearing in the bulk of an episode. That is a lot of work, and these are highly accomplished people with a number of important things on their plate already. Expect a little bit of them, but in the end, expect the series to move on before long to focus on other conflicts with some of the established members of the cast.
Story-wise, some of the premiere may revolve around what Elizabeth McCord is looking to do after her attempts to denuclearize as much of the world as possible. It’s the reason why she is considering now a Presidential campaign.
