Is Madam Secretary new tonight on CBS? Reasons for the delay
Yet, as we’ve come to realize with the TV world over the years, sometimes expectations do not equal reality. There is no new installment of the Tea Leoni series on the air tonight, with the simple reason being that the network wanted to make you wait for one more week in order to see the premiere.
Is this rather frustrating? On some level, absolutely so. Yet, it does also make a good bit of sense when you think about what’s actually happening over on CBS tonight. Because of NFL programming, the earliest that the lineup with 60 Minutes will begin is at 7:30 p.m. Eastern time … and it will probably end up being pushed back a little bit later. With that in mind, it’s clear that they don’t want Madam Secretary premiering on a week when the episode could end up being pushed really late.
CBS may also want to protect the show given that there is a great deal of buzz around their premiere already. Hillary Clinton is guest-starring, and she will not be alone as Madeleine Albright and Colin Powell are joining her! The three former Secretaries of State are going to do everything that they can in order to help the show’s fictional Secretary of State in Elizabeth McCord to make a key decision. This is an interesting way for the show to utilize people from the real world, but we are also rather aware that it’s polarizing as some people do not want real politics injected into a show with fictional political figures. (We’ve basically heard reactions from all sides of the spectrum.)
In the end, we actually expect that this cameo is going to be small, and the main focus of Madam Secretary is going to be the same — trying to make the world a better place, and also offering up a great example of a caring, loving family on TV. This is a series that is mostly written to make you feel better about the world, and in this current climate full of division this is probably more important than ever.
