Doctor Who season 11 premiere will officially screen in movie theaters
Today, Fathom Events confirmed that they are going to be screening the premiere of the time-travel series in around 700 movie theaters. This will take place on October 10 and October 11 at 7:30 p.m. local time, depending of course on your market. This is after the premiere episode airs on October 7, but we don’t think the appeal here is really based on being able to see the new season first. Instead, it has a thing or two to do more with getting an opportunity in order to check out the new season with a number of other like-minded Whovians who are stoked to see some of these stories play out. We do believe that there are a number of exciting things to come out of this new season, including of course the presence of Jodie Whittaker as the new Doctor and, to go along with that, a new showrunner in Chris Chibnall. This is going to be a season that really brings out a new energy and, with that in mind, could bring in some new fans to the franchise.
Are there are a lot of risks to season 11? Sure, but we actually think that there are more risks that come out of not featuring any familiar monsters than hiring Whittaker as the lead — we think that ultimately, that’s going to be just fine.
If you want to check out some tickets to the premiere screenings, you can do that over at the link here. There is going to be some exclusive content for those who choose to attend these events, and that includes some behind-the-scenes content that you are not going to get a chance to see on BBC One / BBC America.
