9-1-1 season 2 premiere ratings big following NFL football
Sunday night’s new episode of the first responders series (you can read CarterMatt’s episode review here) ended up generating, as a whole, a 2.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic and over 8 million live viewers (subject to later adjustments) — even better numbers than we anticipated the series getting going into the premiere! It did benefit quite nicely from the lead-in, but that was also partially the intention. This is the biggest hit that Fox may have going for itself at the moment, and it was imperative that they get it off to a great start to maybe help out some of its other shows.
Update: The series has adjusted up to a 2.6!
Will it keep up a rating that is more than a 2.0 in the demo? Probably not, but even if it posts more than a 1.5 the rest of the season Fox will still consider it a huge hit and a season 3 renewal feels almost like a sure thing. We don’t foresee there being any reason to cancel this show unless for whatever reason, it ends up tanking in the weeks ahead — something that feels reasonably unlikely given that we’re talking about a show that was also trending worldwide at the time in which it was airing last night. Also, this show is really good!
The 9-1-1 premiere last night was in some ways the official start of the fall season for many — though technically, NBC also premiered a new comedy in I Feel Bad last week. Personally, though, we think that last night was more significantly since we’re talking about the return of a highly-rated, already popular series that has a devoted audience.
The momentum will carry over into tonight, given that you are going to see The Voice and Dancing with the Stars premiere alongside The Resident, Bull, Magnum PI, and more. This is going to be a busy night at CarterMatt and we’re more than excited to dive into all of it. The start of Fall TV season is like Christmas morning for us! If you love 9-1-1 in particular, be sure to check back later for our review for the second episode in the 2 night premiere event.
