Bodyguard season 2 renewal, premiere date hopes on BBC One

Bodyguard episode 2

Given that tonight marks the finale, doesn’t this feel like the perfect time to start discussing a possible Bodyguard season 2 over on BBC One?

The crazy thing is that, at the moment, there is no confirmed Bodyguard season 2 at the network, even though it feels almost like a sure thing. This is a show that has been an enormous commercial smash for the network almost from the jump. This series has shown itself already to be a tremendous success, generating huge viewership and, to go along with that, a great deal of attention all over the world. It also has already a fantastic global streaming deal at Netflix and because of that, the future appears to be even more of a lock.

So why the wait on a season 2? We think that a lot of that just has to do with figuring out the best possible story for a show like this. It’s one that takes a good deal of planning, and we really wouldn’t be shocked if a season 2 ends up being very much different from season 1. The one through-line that we can imagine being here with seasons 1 and 2 is getting a chance to see a little more of Richard Madden as David Budd. We imagine that almost everything else is going to change.

As for when we expect a Bodyguard season 2 to premiere, think either in terms of fall 2019 or winter / spring 2020, if the show stays on a similar trajectory. Because we’re talking about a fairly-short season, that should make it easier to get back on the air. However, you also have to figure out a way in which for creator Jed Mercurio to have plenty of time to tell the stories that he needs to tell.

Once we do have a little bit more news on the subject of Bodyguard season 2, we’ll have it for you here. For the time being, though, we are anticipating good news.
