Lethal Weapon season 3 episode 1: Seann William Scott on transitioning to action role

Lethal Weapon season 3

Lethal Weapon season 3 has a new lead in Seann William Scott, and he is certainly a performer coming on board with a specific background.

While we’ve seen Scott do a good bit of action in the past, typically he is thought of as a comedic actor because of American Pie. However, when you actually look at his resume, there is actually some action-oriented stuff on there. Think in terms of The Dukes of Hazzard or Bulletproof Monk. He’s got some experience in doing action sequences, though maybe not in the precise way that this show does it.

In speaking about some of his early experiences on set playing Wesley Cole, the latest member of the LAPD team, here is what Scott had to say to the New York Post:

“Yesterday, they put me on fire … We didn’t set each other on fire on ‘American Pie.’ Let’s just put it that way. I remember reading the script and thinking, ‘That’s hilarious. Are they really going to do that or is it CGI?’ They really lit my arm on fire. They were super-safe. They put a protective shirt underneath [the shirt he was wearing for the scene] and they did a bunch of tests. So they give me a towel and they put a little bit of gel on it. And they set it on fire. You can feel it but there’s no pain.”

We imagine that the longer Lethal Weapon lasts, the crazier we are going to see things become. This is a show that likes to put its characters through hell and back, and they also want to continue to construct action scenes in a way that is very different than they have in the past.

For those wondering, Scott also told the publication that he is just trying to stay away from reading news and discussing the Clayne Crawford situation, which is probably for the best given that he’s just trying to take on the job at hand.
