Criminal Minds season 14: Kirsten Vangsness co-writing finale

Criminal Minds - Garcia

While we’d hoped that Kirsten Vangsness would be involved in the writing process somehow for Criminal Mindsit is certainly nice to get confirmation that it’s happening — and that is precisely what CarterMatt has for you today.

Speaking within a new interview over at Newsweek, the actress confirmed that she will be co-writing another episode with showrunner Erica Messer, but this one is more significant than most — it is the season finale! This is the first time that she has taken on this role for a finale episode, and this means that she’ll be responsible for helping to craft a cliffhanger — if there is one. We haven’t heard anything about this being the final season, and this feels like the sort of thing you would really want to plan out in advance if the end was near.

Of course, you’re not going to get any indication now as to what the story of the finale will be — that’s something more for later this year. Criminal Minds season 14 is currently set to be 15 episodes — we’ve wondered if that could change, but it seems unlikely unless something changes on the CBS end.

In this same interview, Vangsness also opens up about the aftermath of the cliffhanger at the end of this past season, one where both Garcia and Reid (Matthew Gray Gubler) were in grave danger. She’s been through some traumatic situations before, but she makes it very clear that he is much more used to dealing with this sort of crisis than she is:

“Reid’s kind of used to it, but at the same time, he’s been through so much …Garcia doesn’t really know what’s going on. He’s much more adept at this, ‘When taken captive, this is what you do.’ She’s more fish out of water, but I think he’s still in more trouble.”

While it seems like Reid and Garcia are going to make it through the cliffhanger alive, there are some other issues that could be coming up for the two of them. As for what those are, we’ll just have to wait and see. New episodes are going to be starting a week from Wednesday, so stay tuned!
