Could Criminal Minds season 14 go beyond 15 episodes?

Criminal Minds

Criminal Minds season 14 is premiering on CBS come early October, and one of the big things that we know at the moment is the episode count. There will be fifteen episodes this season, or at least that is the way in which it seems at the moment.

Yet, is it going to stay that way? Our intention here isn’t necessarily to give false hope and with that, we do have to think that it’s doubtful the order ends up being extended. CBS set this at the start of a season for a reason, but things can certainly change; after all, they have before with many other shows. The most-recent example of this is Elementary, which managed to get an extended run for its sixth season earlier this year.

The first way that Criminal Minds could end up getting more episodes is in the event that the show ends up delivering some surprisingly strong ratings. If the series is getting good numbers, then of course there is no incentive for CBS to take it off the air anytime soon. Numbers have been slipping every year as of late though, so this would need to be a case of the show really finding a way to turn things around and get more people checking it out live every week. We do think that it at least has a chance, given that it’s not like there is any new competition that it is facing off against and maybe viewers are familiar with it at the 10:00 p.m. Eastern timeslot now.

Of course, there’s another feasible option here: The event that some other CBS shows falter, and there just so happens to be an opening for some more Criminal Minds in the future.

We do think, though, that if the network wants to order more of the show, they’re going to have to do it fairly quickly into the run — if they wait too long, it certainly seems possible that everyone could have some other plans figured out.
