ABC developing another Marvel series, this time about female superheroes

ABC 2018 Fall Schedule

ABC has said for years that they want to do another Marvel series to go along with Agents of SHIELD; now, we’re getting more proof that they’re backing up what they’re saying.

According to a report from Deadline, Allan Heinberg (Wonder Woman) is working with the network now on a new project via Marvel and ABC TV Studios. In true Marvel fashion, there isn’t really any news about what the subject matter will be here other than this: Female superheroes. The idea seems to be to focus on some lesser-known characters within the comic-book world, which is probably good since it could offer up some creativity and (of course) it won’t interfere with anything that is going on in the movies.

It’s not all that hard in order to figure out why exactly ABC would want to do this, mostly due to the fact that Agents of SHIELD is now entering its sixth season and with that, there’s no telling how much longer it has on the air. They do need t give us new Marvel series if they want to keep that relationship strong.

In case you missed it, this is a big week for Marvel adaptations already; after all, it was recently reported that Disney’s upcoming streaming service is hoping to do shows featuring Tom Hiddleton as Loki and also Elizabeth Olsen as Scarlet Witch. This is obviously a more traditional television show, but it certainly is exciting in its own right. Depending on when it is written and if it gets the green light, there is a good chance that this could be a part of the upcoming 2018-19 season.

For those who have not heard as of yet, Agents of SHIELD season 6 is going to premiere at some point in the summer of 2019.

What do you think about the idea for the show, and do you think it is going to bring something new to the genre? Share in the comments!
