Disney look at Tom Hiddleston – Loki series for upcoming streaming service

Inhumans

Disney apparently wants to make sure that their upcoming streaming service has a number of big-ticket items — and that includes a Loki series with Tom Hiddleston.

According to a new report coming in via Variety, the company is interested in doing a standalone show featuring the actor and the super-popular character from the Thor series of films. Meanwhile, they are also equally interested in doing a separate Scarlet Witch series featuring Elizabeth Olsen. All of this makes sense and is perfectly understandable, given that these are familiar characters played by well-known actors.

As for how these projects would work, especially since Olsen and Hiddleston both have many other projects, they would likely only run from six to eight episodes. They would also be fairly expensive to make, but that really shouldn’t be something Disney is altogether worried about given the success of most of their other Marvel properties.

If there is a major concern we have at this point, though, it is market saturation. Think about Agents of SHIELD, all of the MCU movies, the Netflix – Marvel series that are churning out episodes these days, Runaways, Cloak & Dagger, and then adding all of this on top of it. This goes along with the X-Men movies / The Gifted / Legion and then everything that DC is doing across all of its different platforms. How many superheroes can an audience really take? So far, the market has bent but it certainly hasn’t broken, so we feel like we’ll keep seeing more projects until it does.

We will say this as a potential reason why this could work: Given how much time it takes to go to a movie and come back these days, you could probably finish one of these prospective series in around two movie trips. It may be such a short time commitment that it works out., but we will wait and see if these are confirmed.
