Law & Order: SVU season 20: Mariska Hargitay, Ice-T reflect, laugh

Law & Order: SVU season 20 is premiering on NBC in just over one week, and in preparation for that, Mariska Hargitay and Ice-T both have a lot of great things to say about their experience working together.

This week, the two performers stopped by Late Night with Seth Meyers for what proved be a really fun interview. Because SVU is such a serious show, what that often means is that there really aren’t too many opportunities for the cast to go out and do things that make people laugh. This is where the Late Night appearance comes into play. What’s so fun about Mariska and Ice-T is that they have this incredible relationship from working together for so long — they know each other extremely well, and they also have a ton of funny stories from being around each other and also how they tend to act on-set. Mariska, apparently, tells a lot of jokes that are too inappropriate to ever share on television. Meanwhile, Ice-T is a philosopher of sorts who can manage to put a lot of people in their place.

Beyond all of the laughter in this interview (and there is a lot), there is a sneak peek in here that reveals that Olivia Benson is struggling with the physical demands of the job at this point in her life. Is there something going on here beyond just the character getting older? Per executive producer Julie Martin on Twitter (see HERE), all will be revealed on that subject in due time. We just like this particular sneak peek since it is a personal conversation between Olivia and Fin — it’s the perfect thing to include on a talk-show appearance that features the two of them front and center.
