Blue Bloods season 9 spoilers: The change at the Reagan dinner table
As we’ve written previously, Eddie being at the family dinner table is going to be a reminder of how much things have changed for her and Jamie — while they may have the same jobs, it is a completely new parameter and with that in mind, there are going to be some highs and lows — it’s inevitable that there would be.
So the relationship that Jamie and Eddie have is certainly going to be far different than they expect, but the same goes for the dinner table environment as a whole. That’s something that executive producer Kevin Wade explains in a new interview with Entertainment Weekly:
“It’s an injection of nitrous oxide into that dinner table … It throws off the balance — in a good way.”
Think about things this way. The dinner table has had traditional rhythms for some time, and that’s what happens when the same group of people are there week in and week out. There are obviously some differences that are going to come out of having a new person there, someone with her own opinions and thoughts. She’s not going to get along with everyone all of the time and it would be foolish to expect that she would.
But, as a whole, we certainly do think that her impact at the dinner table is going to be positive. Eddie has a good sense of humor, she knows some of the Reagans already, and we think that all of them are going to be welcoming having her around. While we do wonder if Eddie’s presence will remind Danny of what he once had with Linda, we don’t think that this is something that he would consciously express. We don’t think that he is interested in creating conflict out of something that is far out of Jamie or Eddie’s control.
