Will NCIS season 16 introduce any new Gibbs rules into a story?
Yet, one of the interesting things about Gibbs’ rules is that there are still many out there we don’t actually know! There are many mysteries still floating around out there and the CBS show moving forward has the challenge of trying to fill in some of the cracks.

While speaking to TVLine, executive producer Steven D. Binder didn’t share too many details on the subject of what some of the new rules could be, mostly because there may not be too many more that have been officially created just yet — at least within what viewers have seen. Technically, many of these rules were created within the world of the show ages ago, but they don’t tend to surface in episodes unless they make sense. This is reflected in what Binder had to say here:
“That’s always a possibility … We have two new writers on staff and usually our new writers are the ones who like to create a new rule, so I wouldn’t be surprised … The rules create themselves, to fit a need in the story.”
Personally, we like getting more rules just from a nostalgia perspective — these were incredibly important to the series once upon a time and as much as we like the rules, we wouldn’t mind seeing Gibbs grow from some of them. The more that the series honors the old Gibbs, while continuing to add new traits to him for season 16, the better off we’re going to be as viewers in the end. We definitely do know that there are new dimensions the series is looking to add, whether it be developing his relationship with Jack Sloane or finding a way to take some risks and it has us hyped for the new season.
