The Good Doctor season 2 poster signals hope for Shaun Murphy
In this poster (via ET Online), you can see Freddie Highmore’s character of Dr. Shaun Murphy front and center, surrounded by what seems to be an almost-angelic glow. While we know Shaun is no angel (he’s far from perfect), we do think that this is a nod to two different things.

1. The character’s innocence – This is someone who is really still learning many social conventions and he has a lot that he needs to figure out when dealing with some of those. While he shouldn’t be treated with kid gloves because of it, there is a cognizance among everyone at the St. Bonaventure Hospital that there are many things that Shaun still needs to learn.
2. The show’s own optimistic tone – We are talking here about a series with the word “good” in the title. This is a show that, despite the hardships, wants to give you something that is hopeful and gives you a sense that there are good, caring people out there. This focus shouldn’t be all that much of a surprise, given the fact that The Good Doctor is following a recent trend of hopeful, feel-good TV rather than stuff that is simply meant to depress you.
The Good Doctor is coming off of an enormously-successful season 1 run that introduced many great characters, showed Shaun’s struggle, and also taught him how to love and also how hard it will be for him to be able to remain a physician. We also reported recently that his career struggles are far from over — he will still have his job moving into season 2, but could be on relatively-thin ice.
