NCIS season 16 may feature more of Gibbs’ ex-wives

Mark Harmon

NCIS season 16 seems like it’s got big plans when it comes to Leroy Jethro Gibbs. We’ve already heard about plans to build the relationship he has with Jack Sloane, just like we’ve also heard about some upcoming episodes showing off more of his risk-taking side.

So, to go along with this, it’s starting to also look as though the season is going to showcase more of his past — think in terms of some of his ex-wives! Speaking via TVLine, executive producer Frank Cardea had the following to say on the subject of getting to bring one of his exes back onto the show:

“Although we haven’t pinned anything down, it’s been a while since we’ve done anything with any of Gibbs’ ex-wives … Those episodes always pop, so we may be seeing more of them.”

Of course, there are challenges when it comes to bringing some of them back given that not all of them are still alive, but with this show we’re certainly not ruling out flashbacks! Remember here that Darby Stanchfield’s gig over at Scandal is done, and if she’s interested and available, there is a chance to revisit some of her past with the character.

Yet, as interesting as some of Gibbs’ exes can be, what we want for him in season 16 is a chance to focus even more on the future. Maybe one of his surviving exes can turn up and, in turn, convince him to move forward with his romantic life a little bit? While Sloane isn’t a redhead (the man has a type, clearly), she could be an interesting person for him to be with. She challenges him and helps him to potentially see the world a little bit differently. At this point in Gibbs’ life, a little bit of a challenge could certainly be a good thing.
