Big Brother 20 interview: Allison Grodner on Scottie’s speech, Battle Back track record

Coming out of last night’s Big Brother 20 episode, one of the things that we definitely had on our mind was Scottie’s speech. It was … controversial, to say the least. You can read more of what he actually said over at the link here, but let’s just say that it was lewd and the censors had to step in before it made the air.

So what was the reaction to this speech by production, and after losing their Battle Back winner this year after just a week back in the game, does production still have faith in the twist? CarterMatt – Obviously I know the censors are on standby for anything at any moment, but did you have any inclination that Scottie was going to say what he did in his speech? Were you as shocked as I was?

Allison Grodner – We never know exactly what is going to be said in the live speeches. Scottie definitely kept this to himself. We had no idea and neither did the house guests. We have a delay and censors available for this very reason.

Scottie’s return trip to the house was a short one, and in general returning houseguests don’t have the greatest track record. Do you think it’s just too hard for a lot of these people to integrate themselves back into the game and they’re too easy a target?

Returning house guests definitely have an uphill battle but it isn’t impossible. It really depends on your social game and whether you can win competitions. Victor is a great example of someone who was able to come back and go far in the game so it is possible.

Finally, I know you’ve brought in former winners before during the live shows, but why Derrick this time? I have found a few similarities between Derrick’s alliance in S16 and what the remaining members of Level 6 have going on.

Derrick is a legendary BB player and a fan of the game. He always has good observations about the seasons and we knew he was really appreciating the strategy and gameplay of this season’s HGs. He is also someone who knows the power of a strong final two and a strong alliance that can stick together to the end. Both of those things are definitely part of the gameplay of BB20.
