Grey’s Anatomy season 15: Meet Dr. Nico Kim, series’ first gay male surgeon

Grey's Anatomy season 14

Grey’s Anatomy season 15 has just added a notable new character in Dr. Nico Kim, and it’s someone who could certainly prove notable.

According to a new report from TVLine, Alex Landi (who has had a small role in Bull and a few other projects) has been cast to play the aforementioned role. What is immediately notable about this character is that he is the first gay male surgeon to appear on the series. While we’re sure that there is going to be a whole lot more to this character beyond just his sexuality, we understand the importance of highlighting it right out of the gate. Personally, the big surprise here comes via that Grey’s Anatomy hasn’t had a gale male surgeon before — a strange coincidence given the number of LGBTQ people who have appeared, especially in contrast to other network shows.

There is not a whole lot of additional information out there about Dr. Kim just yet, but if nothing else, he should be a good new foil to some of the series’ established surgeons. We do think that it’s rather important that the writers figure out a way to routinely cast new people and have them mix things up with the other doctors who are around. This is reflective in many ways of a real-life hospital environment, and beyond that it’s a chance for Grey’s Anatomy to find some new fresh faces and talent.

New episodes of Grey’s Anatomy will officially premiere on ABC later this month — for now, be sure to visit the link here for further updates regarding Teddy’s return! That’s going to create some big-time drama in its own right.
