MacGyver season 3 premiere spoilers: Who’s returning following time jump?
Per a CBS press release, we can confirm now that both Tate Donovan and David Dastmalchian are going to be returning as Oversight and Murdoc for the premiere episode. Entitled “Improvise,” this episode is going to take a big jump forward after the season 2 finale and show how MacGyver could be roped back into working with the Phoenix Foundation. Let’s just say that it may have a thing or two to do with Jack being in danger. Much of the hesitation to be around them again stems from the idea of control — he doesn’t like the idea that his father had almost manipulated his whole life to get to where he is now, and that may be causing him to drift away from that. Yet, he’ll always fight for the people that he cares about, and Jack is clearly pretty high up on that list.
The MacGyver season 3 premiere synopsis that CarterMatt has for you below offers up some more information as to how Mac returns to work with the team:
“Improvise” – Three months after quitting the Phoenix Foundation and moving to Nigeria, Mac puts aside his differences with his father and returns when he hears Jack is the target of a murderous dictator he double-crossed, on the third season premiere of MACGYVER, Friday, Sept. 28 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.
The idea of Mac moving to Nigeria in itself is a pretty shocking move, and we do hope that the series gives us a chance to see a little bit of what his life is like there — in addition to how some of his former team members have been doing without him. Reign Edwards will also be back in this episode as Leanna, not that this is a surprise given that she’s been spotted in a number of social-media posts for a while.
