America’s Got Talent star Shin Lim joins Colin Cloud, more in The Illusionists
Today, it was announced that starting this November, Lim is going to be joining former America’s Got Talent contestant Colin Cloud, “Futurist” Adam Trent, and a pair of Britain’s Got Talent magicians in Chloe Crawford and Darcy Oake in the “Magic of the Holidays” tour at the Marquis Theatre in New York from November 23 to December 30. This is a pretty substantial gig for Lim, especially with The Illusionists actually coming to perform on the results show tonight in their current iteration.

Basically, this is yet another sign that sometimes, you don’t even need to win America’s Got Talent in order to be enormously successful in the magic world. Many of the magicians from the past have figured that out, as Mat Franco is the only magic act who actually won the season that he was a part of. These careers can have more staying power than almost any other that appears on this show, mostly because it’s a skill that only improves over time. Also, magicians are able to take audiences away from the stresses of real life — it’s something that there is always a demand for, and it translates well into a stage show.
Of course, many of the magicians who have appeared on America’s Got Talent in the past already had experience before the show — Lim is probably one of the more well-known magic acts to appear, but we still wouldn’t call him mainstream (even with some other TV appearances in mind).
