The Hills: New Beginnings announced at MTV; see new teaser
The network announced during the Video Music Awards tonight that this show will be coming in 2019, and is going to feature many of the former cast members alongside many of their friends and loved ones as they go about their lives in Los Angeles. It can’t be the same show that it once was — there is no Lauren Conrad, and the lives of many of these people have changed dramatically — but it probably is going to be very much a popular program again for at least a few weeks. It’s hard to imagine that there are going to be people ignoring this new series at all. It’s too popular of a property for that to happen.
Tonight, former The Hills cast members including Heidi and Spencer Pratt, Audrina Patridge, Jason Wahler, Justin Bobby, Stephanie Pratt and Frankie Delgado were on the red carpet, which was rumored in advance. That started the discussion about a revival, and the teaser that we’ve seen has virtually confirmed it.
So why revive The Hills now? That has a lot to do, most likely, with the enormous success of Jersey Shore Family Vacation alongside the current love that MTV has for all sorts of nostalgia-based programming. This is a network that needs some more original hits and this is a way to get some more attention back to it from viewers who maybe watched religiously several years ago. If this also helps to get viewers onto some of their other series, it’s even more of a win for them.
While the teaser below doesn’t give much of anything away, we do think that it does more than enough to get you excited about the idea of more of this show — provided that you liked the original. If you didn’t, you’re probably not going to bother even watching.
