Outlander convention: Caitriona Balfe’s Skype Q&A, Richard Rankin, and Sophie Skelton

Outlander season 3 episode 9 photos

For today’s afternoon Outlander notes, we have something more to report on in the way of a Skype message!

Earlier today, Sam Heughan decided to do a live Q&A in the midst of his travel and preparation for Bloodshot. Mere hours later, Caitriona Balfe did the same time.

As explained yesterday, convention cancellations often happen for a variety of reasons, but schedule changes are fairly high up on the list. Balfe had a really unfortunate set of circumstances hit her in that production for her new movie changed at the last minute, causing her to not be able to travel out to New Jersey as planned. She still did find a way to video in today, and answered a number of questions about difficult scenes to film, Claire’s season 4 transition, and more. It was a nice gesture for her to do as a way to make it up to some of the fans who were disappointed. (Judging from some of what we’ve seen on social media from Caitriona herself, she is as disappointed as anyone.)

It’s been a difficult few days for most Outlander fans with all of the changes and cancellations, but our advice remains the same: If you pay to go to a convention, just leave your expectations at the door in terms of specific cast members and just plan to have a good time. It alleviates any disappointment and leaves the door open for surprise.

As for Richard Rankin and Sophie Skelton…

The two were in attendance at the convention today and gave some really fun answers in terms of their work on the show, their relationship (which includes a lot of playful ribbing), and the challenging season that lies ahead for the two of them. They may just be convention panel all-stars for much of the past year, as they’ve really excelled at bringing a lot of insight and levity to these conventions.

Moving forward, we just hope that there are more opportunities to see them in action! We certainly know that we are gearing up for one of the best seasons yet for both of them.

As always, we welcome some of your thoughts below!
