Outlander notes: Sam Heughan’s ‘secret project,’ Diana Gabaldon, and more
In a post on his Instagram Stories today, Heughan revealed that he had been in a car for several hours heading towards a secret location for what was a “secret project.” He was also sporting more of a beard than we’ve seen from him in Outlander or during his The Spy Who Dumped Me press tour.
So what could this “secret project” be? It’s possible he is referring to Bloodshot given that he is going to be starting work on it soon (if not already) — but if everyone already knows he is in that movie, is it really a secret at this point? It could be a small role that Sam is popping in to do elsewhere before the next big project, but it’s certainly a fun thing to speculate over. (Of course, we want to know all of your theories on this in the comments!)
While Sam works on whatever this project is, we know that his co-star Caitriona Balfe is in Los Angeles, where work is being done on the Ford / Ferrari movie that she has a role in.

New Diana Gabaldon interview – If you’re interested in a new piece featuring the series’ author, head over to Parade to check that out! She gave this interview mostly in promotion of The Great American Read premiering on PBS this fall. She talks about a number of different things in between American literature and how she got her start. Beyond that, she also talks about how she still writes with the original vision of the characters in mind and doesn’t get distracted by how Jamie, Claire, or others appear on the series:
I know that for a number of readers, because they say so on my Facebook page and so forth, the vision of the actors does, in fact, supersede their original vision of what the characters looked like. It doesn’t for me. They still look the same way they always looked.
