Outlander notes: Sam Heughan wraps press tour; Diana Gabaldon on Jamie casting

Outlander season 3 episode 6 photos

Let’s kick off today’s Outlander notes with a quick reminder that Sam Heughan’s The Spy Who Dumped Me is now in theaters! This is a chance for people all over the world to be exposed to him for the first time, which we of course think will help the series in some capacity.

To go along with the movie coming out in theaters, Sam is also officially done with his whirlwind press tour throughout America that has taken him everywhere from Los Angeles to New York to Miami. Now, he has a brief break before heading down to South Africa in order to start work on Bloodshot. Of course, we’re acting as though he has some sort of break when in reality, he’s probably still having to do something to prepare for either his new role or some of his other ventures. Let’s just hope that he can sleep on airplanes given all of the air travel he’s done as of late.

Before saying goodbye once and for all to Sam’s press tour, let us give you one more video below that features Heughan taking a spy quiz with WWD — this is a good bit of promotion for his new movie, but it’s also totally fun and a chance for him to talk about things completely unrelated to what he’s been discussing in other interviews.

Diana Gabaldon talks Jamie Fraser casting – Now, let’s move over to the writer who started it all, and how she knew almost right away that Heughan was going to be the perfect Jamie. Consider her comments (per Collider, while promoting PBS’ The Great American Read premiering next month) more evidence that sometimes, seeing is believing:

“First time I saw Sam Heughan, though, they sent me his audition tape for Jamie Fraser, and I was looking up his pictures on my way to wherever I was going, and he has a very limited filmography, not many pictures, and, frankly, the ones that he had up were strange. Anyway, so, when I saw the audition, I didn’t know what to expect. He appeared, and in five seconds into it, I was saying he doesn’t look anything like his photos. He looks fine. Five seconds more, he was gone, and it was just Jamie Fraser right there. I recognized him immediately.”

Gabaldon is busy writing Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone, the ninth book in the Outlander series. Outlander has been renewed through season six; hopefully, there will be chances to see all of the other books make it to screen.
