911 season 2: No plans for Connie Britton return, at least for now

911 season 2

For everyone out there who loved Connie Britton on 911the following news may be rather sad: There are no plans for her to return at present.

Today during the Television Critics Association Summer Press Tour, Fox’s Gary Newman made it clear that the idea from the start was to have the Abby character around for a year and that was it — at least for now. Check out a few more thoughts below via TVLine:

“We love Connie Britton, [but] it was always envisioned to be a one-year role … So it wasn’t a surprise [that she left]. If Connie expressed interest and had time in the future., I know [exec producer] Ryan [Murphy] would be thrilled to bring her back to the show.”

We certainly do think that there could be room for a cameo in the future, but it is also clear at the same time that Britton is moving on. She did a one-season arc mostly at the request of Murphy, who she worked with previously on American Horror Story and The People v. OJ Simpson: American Crime Story. We know that there are a lot of people out there (including us) that loved the Abby/Buck arc on the show and how they both helped each other out of a dark place in their lives. We think that Buck can go forward now and be okay, but we are going to miss that chemistry.

At the moment, Jennifer Love Hewitt is set to play the new paramedic, and she plans on sticking around for however long the series is planning to have her.

Also noteworthy from today’s panel: Actress Aisha Hinds telling the story about how she was shot when she was a teenager, and how she staged herself in order to look okay in case the first responders didn’t get to her in time. Luckily, they did.

911 season 2 is arguably the most-anticipated season of any Fox show and the network is certainly treating it that way, putting the premiere on the air on Sunday, September 23 after the NFL before shifting it over to its normal Mondays-at-9:00 timeslot the following day.
