Victoria season 3 premiere date revealed for Jenna Coleman, cast on PBS
Why in the world are they announcing this so early? That’s a good question, but that’s just something that PBS has a tendency to do with some of the shows that they know are coming up far in advance. The one thing that is interesting here is that the US premiere date is being announced even earlier than it is for the UK — even if the Jenna Coleman series is airing on ITV this fall.
For anyone out there wondering why Victoria isn’t airing at the same time in America as it is overseas, one of the issues is that it has to be cut differently to air in a commercial-free format on PBS. Beyond just that, this is jsut the way that Masterpiece has done things. While occasionally you will get a show that airs a few hours later in America than in the UK, typically they air months after the fact. They did this for many years for Downton Abbey and they also do it now with series like Endeavour, Poldark, and The Durrells.
We will say this about airing Victoria in January — PBS sees this as perfect counter-programming against things like the NFL playoffs and also all the awards shows. It’s a series with a very different sort of pace and appeals to people who simply want great British storytelling. It’s a great under-the-radar show in America that is worth checking out, in the event you haven’t seen it yet.

Best show on television. Jenna Coleman and Tom Hughes are electric as Victoria and Albert. Wish it was on sooner, but I appreciate the extra content PBS gives the US audience.
