Animal Kingdom season 3 episode 11 preview: Baz’s murder takes center stage

Moving into Animal Kingdom season 3 episode 11, it feels as though the characters can spend a little bit of time re-grouping and focusing back on what matters the most to them. Billy is seemingly gone, and Pope now has some element of peace when it comes to what happened to his niece Lena.

With that in mind, episode 11 will bring back some of the storylines that have been there for much of the season. Baz’s murder is going to become a key plotline once again, and the same goes for Smurf trying to get back much of the money that she feels she so rightfully deserves. We’ve already seen just how desperate she is to get back what she feels she has earned (torture can be a nasty thing!) and moving forward, she’s probably going to go to other great lengths to get what she wants.

Smurf (Ellen Barkin) enlists the boys in a surprise job that results in devastating consequences. Pope (Shawn Hatosy) is forced to confront the truth about Baz’s murder as J (Finn Cole) steps up for the family in an unexpected way.

We do think that we’re at the point in this Animal Kingdom season where we’re so deeply involved that we really don’t want this season to end. This is one of the things the show does really well: It often takes its time in the middle of the season establishing all of the pieces on the chessboard before it starts to make all of its moves. Then, it strikes, and it strikes quickly like a snake hunting its prey. Then, it’s all over and you’re left for a good year to get hungry for more episodes. Episodes like the one we saw tonight are a great reminder as to why it’s one of TV’s most-underrated dramas.
