Last Man Standing season 7 poster takes a limited focus — for now
In the new poster (via TVLine), you can see a comedic take on Mike and Vanessa Baxter out fishing — of course, Mike is the one who has struggled to catch a decent-sized fish. It’s a pretty simple poster, designed mostly to remind you that the series is coming on Fox starting Friday, September 28 — Fox is promoting the show fairly effectively to date, and there is probably a certain cognizance that they have given the fact that there are probably some people out there who still don’t know that the show is coming back.
So why not include more supporting characters into the mix here? The simple answer is that there is some work that needs to be done in order to recast Mandy. Fox has not announced a replacement for Molly Ephraim just yet, and beyond just that Kaitlyn Dever (Eve) may only come back as a recurring character. Since there’s no new Mandy in the cast just yet, Fox probably wants to avoid some distractions regarding the supporting cast — since Tim Allen and Nancy Travis are the foundations of the series, they can simply promote the show with them and then build around them as they figure it all out.
We do think we’ll start to get a little bit more news about the supporting cast next month, as Last Man Standing will officially kick off production. We think that they aren’t rushing their search for a new Mandy or Boyd (Flynn Morrison is also departing), mostly because you have to find that right combination of talent and physical resemblance — you of course value comedic potential more so than anything else, but at the same time you don’t want them to look so different that it’s the only thing viewers focus on.
