How does Wynonna Earp season 3 episode 2 stack up in the ratings?

Wynonna Earp

Going into Wynonna Earp season 3 episode 2, we were very much curious in its ratings performance for many reasons. For starters, we just love talking about the show. Beyond that, though, the premiere numbers were misleading thanks in part to a preview that aired earlier in the week. We knew that the viewing figures for episode 2 would be higher, but we did not know precisely by how much.

Well, we now have an official answer on that. This episode (which featured the departure of an important character) ended up generating in total just over 480,000 viewers and a 0.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic. This was a sizable increase in both key measures versus the premiere, but in terms of how it stacked up versus the season 2 averages, it was still down slightly. That season averaged somewhere closer to 500,000 live viewers a week.

Do we want to see Wynonna Earp draw better ratings this year than the year before? Absolutely, mostly due to the fact that this is a great show that combines humor, action, and inspiration in a way few others do. Yet, we also knew that if the series only 15,000-20,000 viewers on average versus season 2, that’s a pretty manageable drop. Any show that maintains more than 85% of its live viewers year-to-year is a show worth celebrating. (Technically, we know that Wynonna Earp has been renewed already for a season 4 already, but we do like to keep track of these ratings for the sake of ensuring that there could be a season 5 or something else down the road. We do think that it’s important to play the long game with shows we love.)
