As many of you out there may know at this point, Diana Reasonover was recently promoted to series regular for the upcoming sixteenth season of NCIS. With that, you’re going to be seeing a lot more Kasie Hines and her incredible taste in music!

For the sake of this article though, what we wonder now is rather simple: Is this the only series-regular promotion that we’re going to get? There are a couple of things to consider here, starting with the fact that NCIS lost two cast members in season 15 in Duane Henry and Pauley Perrette, and to date, have replaced them with only one in Reasonover. If they want to continue to make this show a rather-big ensemble, they could easily add another.
What’s the case for the show doing that? It really starts with making the workload easier on the whole cast. While Clayton Reeves was not in every episode, he would turn up in a reasonable chunk of them would have two or three big spotlight stories. Doing something similar here would continue to infuse new blood into the team, and also give you another exciting presence out in the field. We think it could be interesting for the show to cast a really big, stocky character — someone who you would first think of as a tough guy to get close to, but maybe has a heart of gold if you break through all the walls. You don’t see a lot of physically-imposing good guys on some of these CBS crime procedurals and we think that this could be a fun way to shake things up a little bit. That’s especially the case if you wrote in some great opportunities for him to be vulnerable.
At the moment, CBS has not announced anything regarding adding an additional cast member. We do think that it is possible that they could announce one as they dive deeper into filming. We saw this last season with Maria Bello, and technically, Henry’s debut as a series regular came a few episodes into season 14 (even if he made his first appearance at the end of the prior season). You don’t want to take so much time away from Gibbs or McGee that the entire show feels different. Yet, new faces and new energy have been a big part of NCIS from the very beginning. We do want to see that trend continue.
