Could the Downton Abbey movie lead to more?

Downton Abbey movieNow that we know that there is a Downton Abbey movie happening at some point in the future, that of course has us thinking about a number of subjects!

Obviously, we could spend a good bit of time speculating about some of the various cast members appearing and whatnot, but ultimately, to what end? Everyone who wants to appear and is available likely will, and all of this information is going to likely come out in the weeks and months to come anyway.

The question that we find ourselves pondering over at the moment is a little bit more specific: Whether or not we could be seeing more of the franchise after this movie. Is it wrong to be so greedy already? Maybe, but we can’t help it.

We do think that there’s the possibility for more beyond this upcoming movie for one reason for more so than any other: It always has felt like the show has been open-ended! Even back when the series first ended, there was talk about a movie not too long after that. While we do think that there are certain characters who could eventually come and go, the world of Downton itself could continue.

Ultimately, the biggest determining factor here with this is going to be simply if the movie performs well. If it generates huge sales, then it’s easy to imagine that more will be coming down the line! That’s just the big question mark for right now given that it’s hard to know if viewers are going to pay extra for something that they used to just get as a result of their cable subscription.
