John Krasinski supports The Office revival as a Christmas special

The Office

There’s been talk about a revival / reboot of The Office for some time now, and while the series was not a part of NBC’s recent 2018-19 schedule, at the same time we don’t think that they are moving away from the idea completely, either. We are talking about a series here that was, at its peak, one of the most successful shows on all of TV. It really kickstarted a new generation of single-camera comedies and lives on in a way few other shows do on social media. Just think about how often you probably see a gif or a meme featuring Michael Scott or one of the other characters (we are guilty of using them on a pretty regular basis on Twitter). It never really goes away.

One of the other reasons why this idea doesn’t disappear is because the original cast themselves seem to be  interested in doing more of it. Take, for example, John Krasinski. Even though he just had a huge movie success with A Quiet Place and is starring Jack Ryan over on Amazon next month, he still would love to have everyone come back together for more. He explained why, in part, in a new piece over at Entertainment Weekly:

“I think we should reboot it … I think it’s hard obviously with everybody’s schedule to do an Office reboot, but I would so be down. It wasn’t just a show for us. It was a family. None of us had really done anything before. Certainly Steve [Carell] had been on The Daily Show; I had done nothing, I was a waiter at the time. And Rainn [Wilson] had been on Six Feet Under and a couple other things, but we really came into that feeling like a repertory company. It felt like we were doing regional theater — it was so awesome, it felt so intimate and small. And then when it caught on and people were actually watching, we were genuinely blown away. So all that to say [that] doing a reboot for us wouldn’t just be about bringing the show back, it would be about getting back together with those people. They’re my family, they’re my first and only original business Hollywood-y family, so I’d be lucky to do it.”

Krasinski commented that maybe the best way to bring the show back would be via a Christmas Special, something that is extremely popular in the United Kingdom and could in theory be equally popular here since many people are off work at that time and at home watching television with their families. We think that it could work and the cast may be able to schedule out time to do a one-hour special. That some of the best episodes of The Office were ones about the holidays especially their Christmas episodes which our family watches together as a tradition every Christmas Eve with our home made hot cocoa.
