Things just got even more exciting for Madam Secretary Season 5 because it was announced that Former Secretaries of State Madeline Albright, Hilary Clinton, and Colin Powell are set to guest star in the season premiere. It’s a very exciting time and now we want to know how the writers will incorporate them into the show. While it appears as though the three will be playing themselves (Albright has appeared before in that role), why not have fun and think of some additional roles for them?
Congressmen – One option is that the trio could play is Congressmen who like Elizabeth McCord. At the end of the last season, Elizabeth revealed to Henry that she wants to run for President and maybe these former secretaries could play supporters of her. To run for President, Elizabeth is going to need people are on her side from her party so this could be the beginning of her campaign.
On the other hand, they are could Senators who don’t like her and have every intention of stopping her. It was foreshadowed in previous episodes that some saw Elizabeth as a threat for office long before she even considered it herself. So they could be meeting with her to express their concerns.
Other members of the government – Morgan Freeman has guest starred as a Justice on the Supreme Court, so perhaps the former secretaries are playing other forms go government officials who are all called to the White House with President Dalton and Elizabeth.
Themselves – In actuality, the trio are playing themselves as former secretaries who are giving Elizabeth advice on a new case the State Department is considering to take. Elizabeth always has an answer for everything, but perhaps this time an international or national crisis challenges her so much that she seeks advice and counsel. Or, they could be playing themselves as they are back in the White House for an event there. It wouldn’t be unheard of or even strange. Or, maybe they are saying that Clinton ran for President in their world and Elizabeth is seeking advice on how to run a successful campaign.
There are so many possibilities the writers could take in order to have them all guest star in the show. In addition, it doesn’t have to be a long scene. It could be quick, but memorable. Overall, we are so thrilled and excited about these guest casting and know that however the writers chose to incorporate them in, it’s going to be a more memorable premiere.
