Grey’s Anatomy season 15 filming begins with Kevin McKidd, Jesse Williams in Seattle

For everyone out there excited for Grey’s Anatomy season 15, get ready to start popping the champagne because filming officially underway!

Frequent episode director and show executive producer Debbie Allen posted a number of new photos to her social-media accounts (which CarterMatt has for you to check out below) featuring such cast members as Kevin McKidd (Owen), Kelly McCreary (Maggie) and Jesse Williams (Jackson). Production is currently underway in Seattle, where it will take place before shifting back to the their typical set in Los Angeles.

Why go up to Seattle in the first place? Much of it really has to do with trying to craft the most realistic environment possible for the show. Allen can help to create exterior shots for a number of episodes up there featuring many of these characters, and it’s something that, in turn, the show can come back to down the line. It just adds authenticity to the show and proves further that there is a life for some of these characters outside the hospital. Is it feasible for Grey’s Anatomy to just use Los Angeles as a double for Seattle? Sure, they could, but it’s hard to replicate specific landmarks or even some of Seattle’s geography in Los Angeles. It really just depends on what sort of exterior shots Grey’s Anatomy is looking for and if it has a story to tell.

New episodes of Grey’s Anatomy are going to officially start airing this fall, and as we recently reported, love is going to be one of the big themes this season. As for how this applies to some of the various characters on the show, that still remains to be seen — we just how that some people are going to be happy.
