Animal Kingdom season 3 episode 9 sneak peek: Smurf’s next move
Judging from the sneak peek that CarterMatt has for you below, it’s pretty clear that Smurf is ready to move forward as the leader of the family once more. She basically takes over all of the various properties and such that were in J’s name, which gives her complete control again. All things considered, J kept things together decently while she was away … at least by her family’s standards. We already expect J to be a criminal, so nothing we saw during her time away surprised us … even the part of it where he ditched a bleeding-out Nicky outside of the hospital.
For us, one of the most interesting parts of the story coming up is seeing Smurf start to adjust to the new dynamics that are present within the family. J, Pope, and Deran know more about what it is like to run a job with her away and not pulling the strings. They may have a greater sense of independence and they could try their best to exploit that while finding a way to put her in the back seat. Will they eventually try to stage a coup? This is all about survival of the fittest and the most capable people are going to rise to the top – even in a family as dysfunctional as this one is.
Basically, Smurf has a lot to prove entering Tuesday night, and there are also some new threats in her orbit. After all, we’re anticipating seeing a whole lot more of Billy and her in the same place, and that’s not something that we’ve had much of an opportunity to flesh out so far. They’ve got a history, and we’re not sure how much we trust any of the information that we’ve been given by either one of them independently. The truth will come out when they’re in the same place.
