America’s Got Talent: Voices of Hope, Courtney Hadwin, & the Golden Buzzer field
Yet, as powerful a moment as that was, where does this put Voices of Hope as a contender this season? We’d like to say that they are instant favorites to make the finale, but we’re not sure that we can say that just yet. There just isn’t enough of a track record when it comes to choirs having long-term success on the series.
Recently, we did a ranking of all of the Golden Buzzer recipients this season — if you didn’t see that, it goes as follows in order of least-likely to most-likely to win: Michael Ketterer, Makayla Phillips, Amanda Mena, Zurcaroh, and Courtney Hadwin. When it comes to everything from social-media reaction to her established fanbase, Courtney is the runaway favorite to win the show.
If we had to fit Voices of Hope somewhere in there, we’d slot then in at #5 out of the six known Golden Buzzer recipients. We’d say that they have a better shot than Michael, who we could see advancing at least through one round of the live shows but that’s it. Yet, the lack of winner clout for choirs makes it harder to place them higher right now. Even if they are an exceptional group, the problem with choirs sometimes is that there are so many members that it’s harder to forge an emotional connection with just one person. That’s probably why it is so smart that AGT really focuses on the director and just a few individual members.
Also, young solo singers like Makayla and Amanda often have a better chance of sticking around to the finale — we’re giving them the edge right now, though this could certainly change depending on the live shows. Zurcaroh are just so unique that it’s hard to move them from the #2 spot.
