The Flash season 5: Chris Klein cast Big Bad Cicada; see trailer
According to Entertainment Tonight, Chris Klein (Wilfred) is going to play the part of the season 5 Big Bad, a cult leader obsessed with The Flash and a man with the power potentially (as in, in the comics) to take the life force from others. His followers also have a knack for murdering people saved by the Scarlet Speedster. This is a pretty dark villain on paper, and we wonder how much he could alter the lighter tone that we saw through much of season 4 and presumably with the arrival of Nora West-Allen, who is referred to by XS as a nickname Barry gave her when she was a kid.
In a statement, here is what executive producer Todd Helbing had to say about the addition of Cicada to the show:
“We couldn’t be more thrilled to have Chris on The Flash this season as Cicada … We can’t wait to show our audience him in full form, and how this year’s big bad will be unlike any that’s come before him.”
Beyond just Cicada, the new season 5 trailer gives you a good chance to see just how Barry and Iris are adjusting to the idea of being parents to a grown adult; also, you hear a little bit more about Nora’s situation but not so much in terms of whether or not she is connected to Cicada’s situation. We have a feeling that the end tag on this trailer was actually cut from the season 4 finale, given that producers noted at the time that there was a clue about the next Big Bad filmed for the finale, only for it to be left on the cutting-room floor.
Clearly, there is a good bit to like about the upcoming season, which premieres on The CW Tuesday nights this fall.
